WHY DO WE IDEALISE CHILDREN?
Children personify everything we most disdain in adults: they are greedy, they show a stalwart refusal to take into account the needs or desires of others, they are poor problem solvers and they never bathe except under duress. Is it "biology" that makes us love them? Is it the way that they absolve us of the guilt we feel over our petty, selfish impulses by acting out every one of their own? Is it simply that they, in their blind and onanistic way, will love us unconditionally?
